Specification: devotees have long believed that it was brought to India by St. Thomas.
Archeological Details: It is painted on a light woodenplank about a foot and half a square. The picture is known is some quarters as the Scalpular of St. Thomas.

Importance : This is traditionally acknowledged to be one of the seven portraits painted by St.Luke the Evangelist.
The value of this picture is that it is one of the oldest and therefore one of the most venerable Christian painting to be had in India.

 
   

SPECIALITY AND HISTORIC VALUE OF THE IMAGE




The colours used are the traditional hues of Mother Mary - pink, red, blue and gold. A very view of thpicture reveals minute cracks ll over and also some smudges on the face.

It has been framed with glass and exposed on the Altar, just below the reredod containing the bleeding Cross. The value of this picture is that it is one of the oldest and therefore one of the most venerable Christian painting to be had in India.
